The dark bird of night
Soars overhead and casts its veil,
Its deep eyes gleam like firelight.
Alluring.

Feathers black as onyx fall
And drift through dreams and memories.
You hear only its call.
Screaming.

Don't look its way
The crow will trick you, trap you
Spirit you away.

The ebony cloud, swirling, choking,
Caging you in its illusions and nightmares
Shielding your eyes with their wing

Confusing you so that no one knows
Up from down or reality from insanity.
The crimson rush ebbs and flows.

It will twist your thought
Twining light and dark
Making you into what you are not.

Flashes of gold and white
Dart through shimmering black water.
Paper lanterns
Blue, pink, yellow, green, and orange,
Reflect on the koi pond.
Smooth rocks in the sandy garden
Tinged silver in cold moonlight.
Chimes ringing softly.
White lilies sway in the calm breeze.

The snow falls from the dark sky
And kisses the fragile black branches.
Here I lie.

Icy flakes sting my face
I feel nothing, my body is numb
And time seems to move at a slower pace.

Frost sparkles purple and white
Dazzling on my eyelashes.
I swallow hard knowing I lost the fight.
